Product Owner

Product Owner (ESC Pharmacy or PBM-HBM Portfolio, Product Development)

Reporting directly to the Director of Product Management, the Product Owner’s primary role will be to define the scope and content of each release for our ESC Pharmacy and/or our Pharmacy & Health Benefit Management (PBM-HBM) adjudication products. The Product Owner will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product solutions and will work closely with internal business users and external carriers to understand and articulate business requirements to define applicable product features.  This role will participate in industry groups related to Drug and Health benefits adjudication and understand the direction of the industry; monitor for legislative changes and plan their implementation in compliance with target implementation dates. The PO will work closely with Delivery Manager and Application Delivery Teams (Scrum teams) to plan and coordinate release cycles and product increments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with ESC business units and carriers to determine what pharmacy or adjudication functions and features are required to address new business needs, improvements or challenges.
  • Maintain a product backlog for designated product line(s)
  • Provide input into the roadmap and strategic direction of the ESC Pharmacy and /or ESC PBM-HBM Adjudication product.
  • Participate in industry groups related to pharmacy and health benefits and understand strategy and direction.
  • Monitor federal and provincial regulatory bodies for legislative changes that may impact respective product lines (pharmacy or adjudication).
  • Prioritize enhancements, defects and legislative changes in the backlog for implementation within a release cycle
  • Communicate planned content for each release. Provide ongoing status updates on progress of delivery
  • Work with the Delivery Manager(s) and Scrum teams to plan and coordinate releases and ensure operational readiness.
  • Work with the BA team to conduct workshops and use other techniques to identify and collect requirements from users.
  • Provide feedback and review (or write) requirements in the form of user stories and related acceptance criteria.
  • Support functional areas, in the maintenance and enhancement of existing products and provide business and product knowledge
  • Provide guidance to teams to ensure alignment is maintained with defined scope and objectives

  • Support the business in the creation of business cases for new products or enhancements
  • Understand the budget and forecast for each release. Work in tandem with Program office to report on the financials and track estimates to actuals across each release.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary education or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 4 to 6 years’ business analysis or product experience
  • Knowledge of the Pharmacy or Group Health Insurance (pharmacy, dental, other health) industry or adjudication systems
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to drive consensus between stakeholders with competing views/requirements
  • Demonstrates strong ability to work on multiple initiatives and prioritize work accordingly
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent communication (clear, concise and precise), and strong analytical skills.
  • A flexible yet focused approach.
  • Able to demonstrate a range of collaborative methodologies and processes, preferably in an Agile environment
  • Strong knowledge of SDLC processes in relation to the Product Development Lifecycle (PDL)
  • Advanced problem solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to resolve complex issues with innovative solutions
  • Ability to present at all levels of the organization and Line of Business (LOB) Executives
  • Must have effective influencing skills to impact decisions
  • Creative thinker and self-starter
  • Strong customer service focus through adaptability, flexibility and a commitment to quality
  • Nice to have: Product Management certification, Agile Scrum Product Owner training, or PMP
