Summary of Roles & Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Child and Family Service Supervisor, the Youth Justice Delegate working under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) will provide evaluation services and follow up of the extra judicial measure and judicial measures to youth who have committed an offence. The Youth Protection Delegate will be responsible for ensuring the adequate application of Youth Protection Act, Section 33, specifically providing aid counsel and assistance to children and their family and, evaluation of signalments of Section 32.

Position Requirements:

  • Must have a degree in Social Work or Criminology.
  • Must be a member of provincial association of social workers or criminologist and eligible to apply with the Professional Order of Quebec.
  • Supervised practical experience is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of social work experience in a social service agency or health care setting with one of three years may be social work internship.
  • Excellent assessment, interviewing, and counselling skills.
  • Expertise in mental health and substance abuse areas preferred.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion.
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff privacy.
  • Must be able to pass a vulnerable sector check.
