“Backbone” debuts in Montreal.
Hot on the heels of 22 standing ovations in Europe, Red Sky Performance debuts “Backbone” at Montreal’s prestigious Danse Danse Festival for six shows from March 19 – 23, 2019 at 8 pm at Place des Arts.
“Backbone“ ferociously brings to life the electricity of a sentient land as it emerges from millions of years of restlessness. It reveals our way of perceiving the land as alive, sentient, and spirited. Through dance and live music, highly athletic performers interpret nature’s spine and landscapes to embody Indigenous mapping and Western cartography.
“The performance [Backbone] executed with utmost precision during the 75 minutes on stage can only be described as the ultimate art of dance…eight female and male dancers have seemingly overcome weight and gravity, carried by pure emotion and unrestrained energy. Many dance movements are breathtakingly acrobatic, a somewhat unstable balance hardly lasts for a moment transforming itself instantly and with ease into new body configurations. The movement does not pause for a moment, it is delicately poetic, then again rough, rhythmical, breathing, furious, and aggressive.”
— Tilmann Krieg, Offenburger, Germany
“Right from the beginning, the audience is spellbound by the lighting effects and the expressive boundary-pushing, artistic movements. It is a completely new form of artistry, which transmits sensuality and profoundness.”
— Wolfsburger Allgemeine
