GATINEAU, QC, Dec. 3, 2018 – Hosted by the Department of Justice and Correctional Services of the Cree Nation Government, this gathering is unprecedented in its achievement of drawing together some of the most highly recognized leaders in Indigenous Justice around the world. In total, twelve keynotes and panels will take place over the next three days. Amongst the speakers, Grand Chief Dr. Abel Bosum, the Honourable Kim Pate, Senator, Dr. Manley Begay, Professor at the University of Northern Arizona and one of the primary planners and designers of Indigenous Nation-Building, and, Dr. Wilton Littlechild, Grand Chief and Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner, will be delivering keynotes. Furthermore, 24 workshops and breakout sessions, all of which will be led by experts in their field, will give participants even more insights.

Just over a decade ago, the Cree Nation Government entered into a new relationship agreement to realize a new system for the administration of justice and correctional services within its areas of jurisdiction. The creation of a new Department of Justice and Correctional Services allowed the Crees of Eeyou Istchee to establish an Indigenous system of justice that reflects the values of the community and the aspirations of those it serves.
