Montrealers gearing up for Canada Pride Montreal 2017 might notice a particular trend throughout the inaugural festivities and events.
Jean-Sébastien Boudreault, the vice-president of Montreal Pride — which organized Canada Pride 2017 — says there will be heightened focus on Indigenous Peoples and history at this year’s festivities.
As an out and proud two-spirited, transgender and gay man from the Samson Cree Nation in Maskwacis, Alta., and as one of Canada Pride’s 17 grand marshals and honoured guests, Jack Saddleback is giving a seal of approval to Montreal Pride’s efforts to be more supportive of Indigenous Peoples.
“To have the very first Canada Pride acknowledge Indigenous Peoples just goes to show this is solidarity work we’re doing,” Saddleback says.
