Economic Policy Analyst
Full Time Position with Benefits
(after successfully completing 3 months of employment)
Reporting to the Manager of Economic Development, the Economic Policy Analyst is responsible for researching, coordinating, developing and implementing economic projects for the Anishinabek Nation and for seeking out innovative economic development opportunities. The Economic Policy Analyst will also be responsible for liaising with Anishinabek First Nations and other stakeholders.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business administration, commerce, economic development, or related field or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working with First Nation economic development, community economic development, or any related experience;
- General knowledge of the Anishinabek Nation and member Anishinabek First Nation issues, including political aspirations/priorities, mandates, programs, current affairs;
- General knowledge of economic development within First Nations, economic development opportunities, and strategic planning;
- Experience and proficiency in working with a variety of technology and computer applications, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Office;
- Ability to work remotely, with reliable internet access;
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Anishinaabemowin is required;
- Have a valid Ontario driver’s license and be insurable; and
- Must be willing to work irregular hours, when required.

- Assist with the implementation of economic project work plans;
- Conduct research, prepare background reports, technical summaries, briefing notes, and other related documents as required;
- Support the revitalization of the Anishinabek Nation’s Economic Blueprint and its work plan;
- Assist in the coordination of the Economic Development Officer Working Group;
- Assist in the coordination of the Economic Development Regional Round Tables;
- Assist in the coordination and facilitation of the Chiefs Council on the Economy meetings;
- Coordinate third party consultant(s) with the development of key project deliverables;
- Work with relevant partners to identify, plan, support and implement regional activities that will promote economic development;
- Liaise and communicate with Anishinabek First Nations, Chief and Councils, or public in a one-to-one setting on important economic related topics;
- Liaise and communicate with Anishinabek First Nations, government agencies, and business and industry leads;
- Participate in activities aimed at promoting First Nations economic development by partner organizations such as Tribal Councils, Chiefs of Ontario, the Assembly of First Nations, and relevant government agencies;
- Research and explore opportunities that will facilitate revenue generation and economic development opportunities for the Anishinabek Nation by following a strict due diligence and risk management framework;
- Examine and secure financial resources that will provide the necessary capacity to carry out activities related to economic projects that support Anishinabek Nation mandates;
- Ensure all reporting is completed to external organizations as required;
- Provide support to management on fiscal operations including budget development, tracking and monitoring of expenditures, and budget amendments as necessary; and
- Performing all other duties as assigned.
