POSITION:  Senior Network Technician
LOCATION:  Kahnawake Education Center
SALARY RANGE:  $51,949.00 – $62,339.00
DURATION: Full-Time Indeterminate position (9-month probationary period)
Tentative start date: October 18, 2021

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three to five years of experience in information systems, administration and experience in trouble shooting network problems
  • A certificate or diploma in computer science or a related discipline
  • AEC (Attestation d’études collégiales) in microcomputers and networking
  • Expertise in Microsoft Active Directory (2009), Microsoft Exchange, Fortinet appliances and management, and in switching and routing
  • Working knowledge of Windows desktop, VMware, MAC operating systems Windows 7-10
  • Knowledge of interactive whiteboards
  • Basic knowledge of Nortel phone systems and IP camera systems
  • Experience in micro computer repair
  • A combination of education and experience would be considered
  • Knowledge of Office 365 is an asset

About Kahnawà:ke Education Center

The mission of the Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) is to provide the children who live in Kahnawà:ke with a solid and well-rounded education laying the foundation for their future careers. The mission of KEC is carried out by the Kahnawà:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) as well as the administrative arm of KEC. The KEC is responsible for the operation and support of three schools in the Kahnawà:ke community and post secondary administration.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Administration the Senior Network Technician, working in collaboration with the Senior Database Administrator, is responsible for ensuring that the Kahnawà:ke Education System’s computer equipment and networks are kept operational. This position is solely responsible for the management and maintenance of the mail server.

Key Accountabilities

Accountability 1: Maintain and Support Network System (70%)

  • Provide technical support, assistance and system training to technology users
  • Install, modify, and make minor repairs to microcomputer hardware and software systems
  • Act as a technical liaison between users and software and hardware suppliers
  • Upgrade technology hardware when and where appropriate in the system
  • Maintain a system-wide inventory of software and hardware
  • Research and develop new technologies pertaining the education industry
  • Monitor standards and policies as pertaining to personal computer software, (i.e.: installation standards, preferred software and hardware, backups, documentation, security, communications)
  • Provide SMART board support including troubleshooting, minor repairs and user training
  • Install and maintain phone system; support and maintain video conferencing technology
  • Support and maintain the stability of the security system including providing digital copies of activities to authorities when needed
  • Liaise with security vendors
  • Assist the Administration Manager with the development of policies and procedures relating to the information technology function
  • Responsible for ensuring the stability and integrity of the systems through appropriate back-ups and system updates
  • Is an active member of the Schools’ Computer/Technology Committee(s)

Accountability 2: Maintain Mail Server (20%)

  • Maintain the effective functioning of the mail server including creating new user accounts
  • Responsible for restoring files when required and corresponding with users when system outages occur

Accountability 3: Support Strategic Information Technology Initiatives (10%)

  • Assist the Administration Manager with the development of policies and procedures relating to the information technology function
  • Provide support to the Administration Manager including assisting with strategic planning, participating in the annual budget preparation process and keeping them apprised of information technology matters
  • Responsible for carrying out information technology projects in order to achieve organizational objectives, as directed
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops/conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks
  • Consult with school administrators on organizational technology needs
  • Recommend new equipment based on needs; make technology purchases

This individual possesses a high level of integrity, trust and respect for people at all levels within the organization. Sound judgement and decision making as well as the ability to work under pressure and stress are critical for this position. Well-developed interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with staff and students are also required.

Technical Competencies:

Required technical competencies for this position include well-developed information technology management skills including ability to support network users. The incumbent has the ability to learn proficient maintenance of KEC operating software including student records, general ledger and post-secondary. Proficiency in the use of technology and computer programs/applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Active Directory (2009), Microsoft Exchange, Fortinet appliances and other technology software is critical to the success of the role.
