Reconciliation as the Way Forward

(Ottawa, ON): During the closing events of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in Ottawa next week, Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Perry Bellegarde will share his vision of reconciliation at a press conference Monday.

AFN National Chief Bellegarde will speak to the experiences and impacts of residential schools and the significance of reconciliation and how it can be effective as a foundation for closing the gap in the quality of life between First Nations and Canadians. He will outline First Nation priorities and the shared roles and responsibilities for all Canadians.
National Chief Bellegarde will take part in a number of the TRC closing events throughout the city next week, including the Walk for Reconciliation Sunday May 31, Grand Entry and induction of honourary witnesses Monday June 1, the release of findings Tuesday June 2 and closing ceremonies Wednesday June 3.
