Canada World Youth congratulates the FOXY team for winning the third edition of the Arctic Inspiration Prize
Montreal, QC. (December 11th, 2014) – Canada World Youth would like to warmly congratulate the members of the FOXY team (Fostering Open Expression Among Youth) for winning the third edition of the Arctic Inspiration Prize, worth $1 million. FOXY works closely with youth from Northern communities and focuses on their sexual health through its sexual health program. This program aims to transform the knowledge into practical actions in order to improve the dialog about sexual health issues, develop the leadership and coping skills of the youth, and strengthen their self-confidence in making healthy life choices. FOXY was awarded this prize thanks to its knowledge-to-action plan.
The Prize was awarded yesterday during a special ceremony held at the Ottawa Convention Center, in conjunction with the international Arctic Change 2014 conference. The ceremony was followed by a concert featuring a performance by northern artists, presented in collaboration with the National Arts Centre. The Arctic Inspiration Prize selection committee included Mrs. Eva Aariak, former Premier of Nunavut, The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Secretary-General elect of la Francophonie and former Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Mr. Peter Mansbridge, Chief Correspondant, CBC News and Anchor, The National.
The Arctic Inspiration Prize is intended for multidisciplinary teams who have made a substantial, demonstrated and distinguished contribution to the gathering of Arctic knowledge and who have provided a concrete plan and commitment to implement their knowledge into real world application for the benefit of the Canadian Arctic, its Peoples and therefore Canada as a whole.
