MONTREAL, July 5, 2018  – Media representatives are invited to attend the International Conference on Adoption Research 6 (ICAR6) that will be held from July 8 to 12, 2018 at Mont-Royal Center, located at 2200 Mansfield Street, Montreal.

This conference will be the opportunity to learn about the latest scientific discoveries in the field of local, international and customary adoption, in order to improve practices with adoptees and their families, as well as to optimize public adoption policies in Quebec and Canada.

This international and interdisciplinary conference, now at its sixth edition, will bring together 250 researchers, students, representatives of adoption organizations and decision makers from nearly 20 countries in Europe, America, Oceania and Asia. For the first time in its history, ICAR6 is held in Canada and offers programming in French and English (simultaneous translation available for all keynote sessions and some oral presentations).

Among a rich and varied program that spans over 5 days, please note:

• The opening keynote session (July 8, 5pm) by Carmen Lavallée, tenured professor of law at Sherbrooke University, and Françoise-Romaine Ouellette, Honorary professor at the National Institute of Scientific Research, that will look over how adoption legislation in Quebec has changed from the 1920s to nowadays.
• The keynote session (Monday, July 9, 8:30am) by Raven Sinclair, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social Work of University of Regina and member of the Gordon First Nation of the Treaty #4 area of southern Saskatchewan, will combine personal experience and scientific knowledge to witness of the Sixties Scoop and how the Indigenous child removal system operates in Canada.
• A paper session (Tuesday, July 10, 10:30am) on the impact of Internet and social media on the search for origins of adoptees.
• A symposium (Wednesday, July 11, 10:30am) and a paper session (Wednesday, July 11, 1:30 pm) on adoption disruption and ways to prevent it.
