MCK: Crosswalks to commemorate Residential School Children
(Kahnawake – 28, Seskehkó:wa/September 2022) The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that the Public Works Unit will be painting several crosswalks today to commemorate children who attended Residential School and, especially, those that never returned home.
A special orange feather design, created by local artist Wyler Diome-Montour, will be painted at the four (4) crosswalks at Karonhianónhnha School, the two (2) at Kateri School (one in front of the Capital building, the other in front of the White House near the main Council Office).
The Public Works Unit will use the same template to paint the feather design in front of the MCK main building, Capital building, Public Works building and Karihwanó:ron.
This initiative was brought forth to coincide with Friday’s National Truth & Reconciliation Day, and Orange Shirt Day.
