Kahnawake, June 7th 2021 — Quebec Native Women (hereafter QNW), announces the departure of its Executive Director, Carole Bussière. Carole Bussière, who is Huron-Wendat from Wendake, has worked with the QNW team since 2001 and began her mandate as Executive Director in 2004.

Her position consisted of coordinating and directing, with the collaboration of the president, all the human, financial, material and technological resources necessary to achieve the Association’s mission. Her activities were summarized in two points: the follow-up of the employees’ files and the financing agreements that allow the Association to accomplish its mandate.

Carole Bussière was able to transmit her values and mobilize the team to work in harmony while implementing new strategies to accomplish the mission of QNW. She was even considered a living library for QNW, due to her vast repertoire of knowledge.

Throughout her career at QNW, Carole Bussière has demonstrated that she is not only a courageous and strong woman, but above all a woman of heart. Carole Bussière has always understood her employees and has always been an ally in the area of work-family balance. She has always led a women’s organization as a fighter and has always put the well-being of QNW before her personal life. She never gave up work, even if it meant continuing her duties on weekends and vacations. Dedicated and putting her heart and soul into everything she undertook within our organization, her departure will be felt and will unfortunately cause a great void that will be difficult to replace.

All her colleagues, the members of QNW and the Council of Elected Officials would like to congratulate Carole Bussière for her great work over the years and we wish her a well-deserved retirement. The entire QNW team will treasure the vision and knowledge she has acquired in order to pursue the mission of QNW. “I recognize the work that Carole has brought to Quebec Native Women at QNW over the past 21 years. I wish her well in her retirement and welcome the new Executive Director, ” says Viviane Michel, President of QNW.

QNW has officially announced that the person who will succeed Carole Bussière is Claudette Dumont-Smith. Claudette Dumont-Smith holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Queen’s University in Kingston and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Université du Québec en Outaouais in Gatineau. With her wealth

of knowledge and experience, particularly due to her activism in the field of Indigenous health since 1974, Ms. Dumon-Smith intends to pursue the necessary steps to achieve QNW’s mission. She will therefore fill the position of Executive Director on June 7, 2021.
