Ratitsénhaienhs attending 2023 World University Games in Lake Placid
(Kahnawake – 12, Tsothohrhkó:wa/January 2023) The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that Ohén:ton Í:iente ne Ratitsénhaienhs (Grand Chief) Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer and Ratsénhaienhs Harry Angus Rice will be attending the 2023 FISU World University Games, representing the community.
Sky-Deer will be speaking at one of tomorrow’s (Friday) official events, while Rice will attend a pair of hockey games on Saturday with a group from the Kahnawà:ke Youth Center.
“We’d like to give potential student -athletes a chance to see what could be in their future,” said Ratsénhaienhs Rice. “We hope this trip could be inspirational.”
Local athletes participated in a ceremonial Torch Relay through Kahnawà:ke on December 8th, concluding at today’s opening ceremonies. Organizers approached Kahnawà:ke as an acknowledgment of the Games taking place on ancestral Haudenosaunee territory.
