A Day in the Life of a Relationship Manager
- Proactively seek new high -value prospective customers locally and globally. This is achieved by building relationships with our existing and prospect customers and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver the bank to our customers
- Drive HSBC’s strategic objective to become the ‘Leading International Bank.’
- With ever increasing competitive pressure and the need to drive income growth consistently, demonstrate resolute strength in transacting with high quality businesses and showing the value that HSBC can bring.
- Structure credit facilities to ensure optimum balance between clients and HSBC interests within the bounds of prudent banking
- Complete, timely, and in-depth evaluations or reviews of financial and operating risks for all credit facilities, in order to ensure usage is in accordance with approved terms and conditions. Ensure credit and operational quality is not compromised in the pursuit of income.
- Grow sustainable revenues from existing relationships and through targeted acquisition of quality new clients.
- Provide value- add advice and solutions that appropriately match client’s needs, maintaining service and customer excellence at the centre of all activity. Place client’s needs at the forefront and setting world class standards.
- Partner with internal experts and identify opportunities for Global liquidity and cash management needs, Global trade and receivables financing and Leasing opportunities.
- Adhere to control standards, identify and manage the risks associated with the customer relationship globally. These risks include but are not limited to credit risk, operational risk, and financial crime (Fraud and Anti-Money Laundering) risk.
- Build a network of business introductions in the local professional and business community.
Also build on our global network, recognizing the increasing globalization of the world’s economy and the increased value of international customers.
- Lead, inspire and motivate junior colleagues to ensure seamless RM service is delivered. Support new and existing colleagues promoting and contributing to an engagement culture. Taking a genuine interest in individual progression.
- Conduct balance sheet and capital structure dialogue with clients, typically at the CEO level
- Keep abreast of external factors influencing international and domestic businesses e.g. economic, cultural, geographical, procedural and regulatory requirements. Also keep up to date on knowledge of HSBC’s international and domestic strategy, capabilities and policies

Qualifications
Key to success in this role:
- Total of 5 – 7 years commercial banking experience, of which 3 years is managing commercial relationships; Bachelor’s degree preferred but not essential
- Proven analytical ability, with experience of credit and relationship management within Business Banking Sector.
- Proven ability in identifying and meeting customer needs through a broad range of products and services.
- Proven level of business acumen and commercial awareness including economic, cultural, procedural and regulatory issues.
- Possess world class customer service excellence, own customer engagement and able to build long term relationships
- Knowledge of international trade products & services desirable
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a particular emphasis upon inspiring, influencing and negotiating in dealing with internal and external stakeholders. Delivering compelling presentations is second nature.
- Proven ability to innovate and deliver creative and flexible customer solutions.
- Ability to differentiate from the competition through the delivery of a responsive and proactive relationship management service and to engage with clients at a strategic level.
