6 years after Viens report, government still ‘afraid’ of naming systemic racism, advocate says

Dr. Stanley Vollant was waiting for a family member in the emergency room at the Chicoutimi hospital in August when he saw two signs — one in Atikamekw and the other in Innu.

It included the numbers of the navigator and liaison personnel for Indigenous patients.

For Vollant, it was a sign of progress.

About 20 years ago — when he first started his career as a physician —- Vollant says he “never would have seen that.”
