Makivvik Launches Lilly’s Fund Support Program for Nunavimmiut Living with Severe and Permanent Disabilities

KUUJJUAQ, December 2, 2025 – Makivvik is pleased to announce the launch of a new program, Lilly’s Fund, which will provide financial support to Nunavik Inuit with severe and permanent physical or intellectual disabilities and to their families. Named in honour of Inukjuak’s Lilly Mina and her lifelong campaign to advocate for Nunavimmiut with disabilities and to raise awareness of the challenges faced by their families and caretakers, Lilly’s Fund aims to alleviate the burdens imposed by the lack of accommodations and financial support that many individuals are faced with in Nunavik’s communities.

Spearheaded by Makivvik’s President Pita Aatami, this initiative marks an important step towards facilitating widespread access to disability care in Nunavik. With a timely launch just ahead of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is recognized on December 3rd, Makivvik is hopeful that Lilly’s Fund will alleviate some of the hardships faced by community members living with disabilities and help compensate for the ongoing lack of similar services and care infrastructure in the region.

Who can apply?

Applications are open to Nunavik Inuit who meet the following criteria:

-Must be a beneficiary of the JBNQA

-Living with a severe and permanent disability as established by a healthcare professional

-Must be 64 years of age or younger

-Parents or guardians may apply on behalf of minors
